Honorary President, Ioannis Gklavakis

The members of “Greek Dance Archives” convened for an extraordinary session in Athens on 21st February, and taking into account the proposals of members and the President, unanimously elected the Eminent NEA DIMOKRATIA European Parliament Member, Senator of IOV and Honorary Member, Mr Ioannis Gklavakis , Honorary President in recognition of his long-standing contribution to the folk culture of our country and his unceasing support of many cultural organizations and of “Greek Dance Archives”.

This distinction constitutes our organization’s public thank you and recognition of Mr Gklavaki’s continuous energetic presence and advice in the organizing of Greek Dance Archives’ most important events, which have given Greece world publicity.

The new Honorary President of “Greek Dance Archives”, apart from his invaluable contribution to all the local cultural societies of Almopia, has made a huge difference with his personal, unreserved support in the organization of two outstanding world Congresses: in Aridaia in September of 2000 and the 4th World Congress of IOV and “Greek Dance Archives”, in Athens (Ancient Agora) and Volos in May 2007.

The informative activity of his office in Brussels is noteworthy for the press releases to all of Greece on matters concerning agriculture and fishery, the sectors he serves in the European Parliament. Professional occupation of many of our colleagues from rural areas with the land, products and local traditions have contributed to the broadening of communication between them as well as keeping them informed of agricultural matters

We feel truly fortunate that such a special person, a Greek European Parliament Member who is characterized by his love for the region, for Greece and its culture, now holds the position of Honorary President

With great pleasure we present his biography:
