Ioannis Gklavakis
Member of European Parliament
Born in Thessaloniki in 1949.
Brought up in Piperia, Aridaia in the prefecture of Southern Pella.
Graduated from the Agricultural University of Thessaloniki in 1973.
Studied for four years at the Industrial School of Thessaloniki.
Owner of the horticultural business “ GKLAVAKI PLANTS OE” from 1976 to 2004.
Member of the International Plant Propagators Society.
Representative of horticultural producers in T.E.P.Y.of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Exclusive associate for many years of the French national organization, INRA, for the production of root asparagus in Greece. Developed co-operations with businesses and associations in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, France, England, Germany, Spain and the United States, and in recent years with all the Balkan countries.
Since 2003 the exclusive representative for Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, FYROM and Albania of the Italian organization C.R.P.V. which handles all the newly patented varieties of fruit produced by Italian Institutes.
Speaker at numerous conventions in Greece and abroad.
Member of the New Democrat Party from its establishment and member of the party organization at his birthplace, Aridaia.
Member of the Committee for PASEGES from 1984 t0 2003, president in 1991 and vice-president 2002 and 2003.
President of EAS, Almopia (1990).
Member of the Town Council of the municipality of Aridaia 1990-1994.
Member of the Committee for the International Exhibition of Thessaloniki (HELEXPO) from 1990 to 1993. Responsible for the exhibits AGROTICA and ALEIA.
Candidate for Prefect in the 1994 elections. Supported by NEW DEMOCRACY party and won 48% of the votes.
Member of the Board of the Prefecture of Pellas from 1994 to 1998.
Member of the Central Committee of NEW DEMOCRACY 1997.
Candidate for European Parliament with the NEW DEMOCRACY in 1999.
